We took a much needed 10 day break from the Indiana cold weather and went to visit Grandma T in Louisiana.
Before leaving I was looking up activities for toddlers (Jaxson) to do on car trips, thinking a 14 hour ride in the car might get boring and unbearable for Jax. I did not really find any for Jax, but found a really cool one for Bradley. Travel tickets, we gave him 30 tickets at the start of the trip and every thirty miles he had to give us a ticket. It kind of helped pass the time more easily and it was something tangible to help him under stand how much longer.
During the time we were in New Orleans, it was Mardi Gras time and Super Bowl was taking place in the city. We managed to go to three different Mardi Gras Parades during the time that we were there. The boys got some great "throws," they came home with a couple bags full beads, several stuffed animals, coins or "Mardi Gras" money, swords, plastic machine gun (Bradley was very excited about this one.), and a plethora of other stuff.
The kids were getting a little restless waiting for the parade to start, so why not feet them cotton candy? And also force them to sit for a family picture?
(Bradley and I made this sign for the third and final parade and it worked like a charm. He held it up so proudly and was beaming each time someone threw him something other than beads. For those not familiar with Mardi Gras, this the traditional line that kids used to shout shout to the floats.)

One of the first floats that came by was sponsored by an authentic New Orleans Chip company and they were throwing snack size chip bags. Jax got one, went and sat in his stroller and just watched the floats roll by, he wasn't interested in catching anything else.

On the night of the first parade, mom had a connection and we were able to sit in the stands where the important people sit. We came home from that night with several reusable grocery bags full of beads.

For some reason I forgot to take picture of some of the really neat Disney Character floats that we saw at one of the parades. This is a picture from a distance of the floats, hard to see here, but the costumes are VERY elaborate.
